INK at the Abbey

How can fiction help make the world a better place?

  • How can fiction inspire us to live better lives and communicate important ideas?

  • How can we avoid the traps of propaganda in writing this sort of fiction?

Ink at the Abbey supported a cohort of writers to create fiction aimed at inspiring compassion and encouraging reflective engagement with the world. One of the stories developed at the event explored tools for clear thinking, embedding these in narrative in a way that helped illustrate their practical applications. Other stories explored compassion, curiosity, hope, ambition, and how we might orient to the world. And yet others explored concrete concerns that should draw the attention of the compassionate mind. The writers in the cohort developed their stories, their craft, and reflected on what it means to write fiction for the sake of improving the world.
