SHELTER Weekend

What would it look like for the world to have civilizational resilience adequately covered?

  • How and to what extent might different interventions narrow the threat space?

  • Which interventions should we begin work on in the next 2-3 years?

SHELTER Weekend focused on gaining strategic clarity on exactly what’s needed to make civilization more resilient and kickstarting projects to make this so. Participants with diverse expertise explored the feasibility and challenges of creating shelters capable of protecting humanity in case of a collapse, among other possible interventions. Key takeaways included the recognition that technology alone is insufficient; organizational efforts, maintenance, and preparedness are crucial. Strategies such as hardening crucial facilities and supporting geographically and culturally diverse communities were emphasized. The participants concurred that single-factor risks are unlikely to cause human extinction, underlining the importance of multi-faceted responses to existential threats.
